In 2024, Christina Vetor & her son, Dakota, became our 46th family. Habitat had been searching for a second family to build for last year, when the Vetor family rose to the top of the application list. Christina & Dakota were homeless, living in a motel, at the time they applied to Habitat. Christina's dream was to own a home of her own to raise her son and have security for herself and extended family.
Over a 25 year period, Christina had applied to Habitat on 5 different occasions, before finally being selected as a Habitat partner family. Her younger brother Tim urged her to try applying one last time. She remarked, "I'll never forget receiving that beautiful call from Habitat. Some amazing people were on the other end telling me that Dakota & I had been chosen to be the next family. It's a dream come true. I never believed this could happen after waiting so long." To bring the story come full circle, Christina ended up selecting a lot to build her home on that was donated to Habitat by an amazing family that had a important connection to her past.
Christina was in foster care most of her life living with over 14 families. Only one of those families showed her love. This family was instrumental in saving her life & would become a pivotal part of her future. This family who showed her so much love was Janet Clark and her daughters, Jill & Julie. Janet was a foster mother to Christina and after she passed, her daughters prayed about what to do with a vacant lot they inherited. They felt led to donate the lot to Habitat in their mother's name because they wanted another family to experience how a loving home can transform lives. One of Habitat's newest volunteers attending the groundbreaking where the story was shared. She beautifully captured the intrictries of God weaving together Christina's story perfectly connecting past, present & future.
Habitat extends our deepest gratitude to our Sponsors for their significant financial contributions in supporting this build:
We want to recognize our generous donors who are providing in-kind professional services &/or materials for the home:
